Anticipation builds and all eyes are on the starting gate (or tote board, for this race that starts on the backstretch) to await the moment when these ten horses will spring forward from the gate in pursuit of another victory. A close look shows this image to be almost as much a study of the gate workers, as they provide a steadying influence to the horses, then help to "shoo" them out of the gate.
